Our research interests revolve around the study of water-related risks and the development of tools that characterize them to support decision-making. A focus of our research is on natural hazards such as floods, flash floods and landslides because of their significant impacts on society.

The following are some of the main research themes at AHWA:

  • Understanding the coupled hydrologic-human system
  • Models of everywhere: developing process-based hydrologic models
  • Increasing lead-time in hydrologic forecasts
  • How far does theory and data take us? Addressing uncertainty in hydrologic models
  • Satellite-based hydrologic modeling
  • Elevating information content: from physical modeling to decision-making
